As a registered professional engineer, Mr. Schmidt has been involved in a diversity of engineering planning and design applications but specializes in site development civil engineering with particular emphasis on large scale institutional, commercial/industrial, residential and resort development projects. The geographic range of his experience extends through San Luis Obispo County, Santa Barbara County and Los Angeles County, including the cities of Santa Clarita and Glendale.
Mr. Schmidt works extensively with developers and architects as part of multi-disciplinary teams, to facilitate and integrate civil design with architectural, landscape and streetscape aspects of successful projects.
Mr. Schmidt excels as an Engineer of Record, lead engineer and project manager. He directs and performs a variety of engineering operations including design and supervision of engineering improvement plans, utility design, grading plans, earthwork calculations, development plans, SWPPP plans and preparation of Hydrology Reports.
One of Mr. Schmidt’s noteworthy projects include the Miramar Resort in Santa Barbara. Mr. Schmidt was responsible for redevelopment of an existing 161-room seaside resort originally established in 1887 and situated on 14 acres in Santa Barbara County along the Pacific Ocean in Montecito. UPRR railroad tracks bisect the property. Property was completed in March 2019.
Also noteworthy is the Village At Los Carneros in Goleta, California. A 43-acre, 465-unit residential development consisting of single family, three-plex and four-plex condominiums, low income housing, market rate apartments, a public park and recreational center. Public improvements include widening of Los Carneros Road and a new bridge connection to the site.
Other projects include the Marriott Residence Inn in Goleta, California, and the Samarkand LifeCenter in Santa Barbara. Site design included grading, drainage, roadways, and utilities. The project, currently in the design phase, was featured in a supplement to Long Term Living Magazine as a Design 2011 Citation of Merit Winner.
Other notable projects include the Deckers Headquarters Cabrillo Business Park in Goleta, the Orcutt Village Marketplace, a 24-acre multi-use, commercial shopping center and hotel project, College of the Canyons, Canyon Country Education Center in Santa Clarita, California, the Americana at Brand-Nordstrom Building in Glendale, California, and Pacific Palisades Village completed in September 2018.
