As a registered professional engineer, Mr. Schmidt has extensive experience in a wide range of engineering planning and design applications, with a specialty in site development civil engineering. His expertise includes large-scale institutional, commercial, industrial, residential, and resort development projects throughout San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Los Angeles Counties.
Mr. Schmidt regularly collaborates with developers, architects, landscape architects, and other design professionals to integrate civil engineering solutions with the architectural, landscape, and public realm elements essential to successful projects. He excels as an Engineer of Record, lead engineer, and project manager, directing the preparation of engineering improvement plans, utility plans, grading plans, earthwork calculations, development plans, SWPPP documents, and hydrology reports.
Notable projects include the redevelopment of the Rosewood Miramar Beach Resort in Montecito, where Mr. Schmidt was responsible for civil engineering services associated with the transformation of the historic 14-acre, 161-room seaside resort originally established in 1887. The project included complex site constraints, including the presence of the UPRR railroad corridor through the property, and was completed in 2019.
Mr. Schmidt also served as the civil engineer for the Village at Los Carneros development in Goleta, a 43-acre, 465-unit residential community consisting of single-family homes, multi-family units, affordable housing, market-rate apartments, a public park, and recreational facilities. Public improvements included widening Los Carneros Road and constructing a new bridge connection to the development.
Additional notable projects include the Residence Inn by Marriott Goleta, the Samarkand LifeCenter in Santa Barbara, the Deckers Headquarters at Cabrillo Business Park in Goleta, Orcutt Village Marketplace, a 24-acre mixed-use commercial center and hotel project, College of the Canyons Canyon Country Education Center in Santa Clarita, the Americana at Brand Nordstrom Building in Glendale, and Pacific Palisades Village completed in 2018.
Through his diverse experience managing complex developments, Mr. Schmidt brings a comprehensive understanding of site design, entitlement coordination, multidisciplinary collaboration, and construction implementation.
