Mr. Tait brings more than 35 years of municipal facilities, maintenance, and construction experience with the City of Santa Barbara. His extensive background includes field inspection, public works operations, capital improvement projects, facility maintenance, and coordination with contractors and City personnel.
Mr. Tait began his career with the City of Santa Barbara Waterfront Department in 1986 as a Maintenance Worker II and later advanced to a Senior Maintenance position. His responsibilities included heavy timber construction, crane operations, carpentry, painting, landscaping, and electrical work at Stearns Wharf, the Harbor, and Marina facilities.
In 2001, Mr. Tait transferred to the City’s Public Works Department as a Maintenance Crew Leader for the Downtown Parking Program and was promoted to Facilities Maintenance Supervisor in 2002. Until his retirement in 2021, he was responsible for maintenance operations for all Downtown Parking facilities, including 10 surface parking lots, five parking structures, and the Downtown Plaza.
In addition to managing daily maintenance activities, Mr. Tait supported the development and administration of annual budgets and capital improvement programs. His responsibilities included investigating public concerns, performing field inspections of City facilities, sidewalks, parking areas, and contractor work, and verifying compliance with approved work methods, specifications, and OSHA requirements.
Mr. Tait participated in numerous capital improvement projects, including annual pavement maintenance and slurry seal contracts, construction of the Granada Garage, stairway replacements, elevator upgrades, LED lighting conversions, parking revenue control system upgrades, ADA improvements, and security camera installations.
Since joining Flowers & Associates, Inc. in 2021, Mr. Tait has provided construction inspection services for municipal roadway maintenance projects, including pavement crack sealing, point repairs, slurry seals, and asphalt overlays. His responsibilities include construction process verification, quantity measurement, coordination of materials testing, record keeping, photographic documentation, traffic control monitoring, and field coordination with contractors.
Mr. Tait’s extensive municipal experience and practical understanding of public works operations provide valuable insight into successful construction inspection, documentation, and project delivery. Recent assignments include inspection services for the City of Santa Barbara’s FY21A Pavement Maintenance Project (Slurry Seal), FY21B Pavement Maintenance Project (Overlay), and FY22A Pavement Maintenance Project (Slurry Seal).
