In 1986 Mr. Tait was employed by the City of Santa Barbara Waterfront Department as a Maintenance Worker II, later moving to a Senior Maintenance position. Duties included heavy timber construction and crane operations, painting, carpentry, landscaping, and electrical work at Stearns Wharf, Harbor, and Marina.
In 2001 Mr. Tait transferred to the City of Santa Barbara Public Works Department as a Maintenance Crew Leader for the Downtown Parking Program. He was promoted to Facilities Maintenance Supervisor in February 2002.
From 2002 until his retirement in 2021 Mr. Tait was in charge of maintenance for all Downtown Parking facilities including 10 surface lots, 5 multi-level parking structures and the Downtown Plaza.
In addition to day-to day-maintenance operations, Mr. Tait participated in the preparation and administration of the Downtown Parking budget and capital improvement program, in which he received and investigated complaints, and performed field inspections of City buildings, sidewalks, parking lots/structures and work completed by City staff and outside contractors to ensure compliance with proper work methods and OSHA compliance.
Other Capital Improvement projects included the annual pavement maintenance and slurry contract, construction of the Granada Garage, stairway replacements at Lots 2, and 10, major elevator upgrades Lots 2, 7, 9, and 10, installation of LED lighting in all parking facilities, selection and replacement of parking revenue control equipment, ADA upgrades, and security camera installations.
Mr. Tait began working for Flowers & Associates as an inspector in 2021. He has been an inspector for streets projects including the inspection of streets to receive crack fill, point repairs, slurry seal and overlay. He is familiar with process and placement evaluation, measurement, coordinating testing, record keeping, photo documentation, traffic control evaluation and other aspects of providing inspection services.
Mr. Tait has most recently performed inspection services for the City of Santa Barbara’s Pavement Maintenance Projects: FY21A (Slurry Seal), FY21B (Overlay), and FY22A (Slurry Seal).
